Owning and maintaing Doves for Releases and displays is a 24/7 and 365 day per year activity. Their health and well-being is of prime importance. Spending time caring for my birds is a big responsibility and a lot of work but very rewarding. One question that is always asked: Are they Pigeons or Doves? The terms "pigeon" and "dove" do not refer to separate taxonomic groupings within the family therefore the names are interchangable. The word word "pigeon" is derived from the Latin word 'pipio' meaning 'young bird' and then passed into Old French as 'pijon' thus the name 'pigeon.' Dove is the English term for the "Rock Dove" or Columba livia. Americans have basically applied the term Pigeon to the larger species of Columba livia and Dove to the smaller species of Columba livia. Doves for Release are selectivly bred from racing/homing stock to be snow white, and have perfect homing instinct and be capable of flying great distances to their home.
Doves for Display: Small cage type Doves, descendants of the Genus Streptopelia, Barbary, Trutle or White Ring-neck Doves (a mutation of the barbary Dove" are popular for displays in pairs. Their gentle "cooing" and beautiful calm demeanor add a unique character to any setting. This type of Dove can be handled, cuddled and petted for fun and a perfect photo opportunity for guests. I place cages of these Doves at most Dove Releases. CAUTION: THESE DOVES ARE NEVER TO BE RELEASED (They ride back home with me in the Van)
Old World Fancy Doves: Indian Fantail Doves and Exhibition Fantail Doves posses unique grace and beauty. They have been favorites of Persian Monarchs and Khans of India for Centuries. A display cage (accented with your colors) of a pair of these are favorites of photographers and wedding guests. You can use this area to showcase additional text or photos.
